Every personal computer or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software which interacts with the computer hardware, including peripherals such as a mouse or a printer, along with any applications that are installed on the system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a web server, each app runs within the parameters established by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This is valid for both standard Internet site scripts and server-side software such as a media server. When a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two different Operating Systems, referred to as guest OS and host OS, which means that you will be able to set up a different software environment on the very same machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Web Hosting
Our virtual private server packages come with three Linux releases which you may pick from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being totally free, the OSs are extremely stable and secure and the primary reason to offer all three of them is to ensure that you will be able to run every app that you'd like, because different pieces of software could have different requirements regarding the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is supported by a large community of web developers who have produced a large number of software packages which you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System that you choose, you will also be able to choose between 3 different Control Panels to take care of your hosting content. Also, should you decide that you need a new OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the Operating System for optimum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers Hosting
We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server packages - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're absolutely free so they won't increase the cost of your new web hosting server, but also because they are exceptionally stable and secure. Each one of them is supported by a vast community of developers, so you'll be given the option to choose from thousands of software packages that you could install on your server if the app that you want to work with has specific requirements. The Operating System will also determine what hosting Control Panel you can use as the Control Panels that we offer are compatible with specific OSs only and because we would like to give you as much freedom as possible, we offer multiple OSs and multiple Control Panels. In case you choose a server with a certain Operating System, we will change it upon request in case it turns out that you will need a different one. We can also keep your OS updated on a weekly basis as a part of the additional Managed Services upgrade.
